Cable Restrainer

Cable Restrainers have been widely used for bridge seismic retrofit in the United States (California) since the 1970s. They are one of the most efficient retrofitting schemes for bridges superstructures from falling off their supports during earthquakes while still allowing small movements of the superstructure under normal conditions.

On the thrid quarter of 1999, under the current Sixth Road Project – Bridge Component, the Everest International Consultants, Inc. (EICI) Design Team, after several extensive testing and plant/facility inspection, recommended that its requirement for cable restrainers be produced and assembled locally by the Wire Rope Corporation of the Philippines.

Today, Year 2000, WRCP-made cable restrainers will be used to retrofit about 400 bridges in the Philippines. The first contract includes supply of various cable restrainers for bridges in Ifugao, Nueva Ecija, Nueva Viscaya, Bulacan, La Union, Pangasinan, Tarlac, Metro Manila and Aklan.

WRCP will most likely manufacture all the cable restrainer requirements for retrofiting bridge projects for the entire country.
